Schwalmtal recognizes Hitler's honorary citizenship from the
Schwalmtal --
A local historian recently found a note in the archive, some will have known there: On 12 April 1933 was appointed unanimously at the request of the Nazi Adolf Hitler as an honorary citizen of the community Amern St. George.
Schwalmtal - since 1970 the legal successor of the community Amern St. George - must now dig through the troublesome legacy.
Legally, the matter is already settled: In NRW extinguished with the death of an honorary citizen of his rights. Symbolically, however, the matter will be concluded today evening: All the groups of the local council will follow the request of the Greens.
The freeman of Hitler is no Schwalm dollars basis. In the 1930s, appointed about 4000 cities and towns Adolf Hitler as an honorary citizen. Some revised this directly after the war, other cities began to debate this late. Dusseldorf in 2000, decided to withdraw the dubious honorary citizenship.
In other cities (Kleve, Erkelenz, Siegen) occurred in the last years embarrassing disputes over whether an extinguished with the death of the person's right may be revoked even posthumously.
